color and design... back to the basics.

And so school appears to magically still going on although there are some factors that may make it fall apart...
I am in my first two art classes for the first time in years. I've taken some art history type of stuff... so a real art class again seems pretty daunting.
I am in color and design as well as drawing 110.
Our week one project was to illustrate works through lines.
It was a super difficult project for me to do...even more so because I thought I only had to turn in two but in fact had to do four. Surprise surprise.

'prayer' ^

'lyrical'^

'dynamic' ^

'angry' ^

We had to use lines that were in the class textbook, I found it more limiting on trying to make sense of a word with the use of line.
So there ya go.

in other news... when you do lots of school work you find more appreciation for the distractions you can find within a few feet parameter.
Exhibit A:

The Adorable Mylo, I love him and he loves me.
How do I know? Instead of sleeping in his comfy bed he'll come lay on the cold ceramic tiled floor just to be close to me while I work.

Exhibit B:

Other animals visitors. Some times when I come back to my little desk there are random things that are boring..like mail, dust, dog hair...
cute little chicks, are a fantastic distraction and they were on my desk for a while as well. I think there are Brahma mixed chickletts :)

Exhibit C:

Looking through old papers. This is one of the only drawings I did while at Red Fishy.

Snow in Texas.

On Sunday it snowed, So I did not go to work..because the roads where bad out in the boonies where I live with the Taylor family.

What have I been up to?
School.
Spending time with Carmen!
A little bit of work.
...more school.

I am currently taking online courses until second block starts and hopefully my little car Calvin can make it up to Idaho

I have been listening to Sufjan Stevens a lot lately. I find it regrettable to find out that he was making music when I was in middle school ... back in the day where I couldn't find anything to listen to. Little did I know Sufjan was alive and creating making music that is just the kind I like.

So I just have not really had time for art at all this, however, is an assignment.
Yeah I could have taken longer on it and I am sure there are lots of things wrong with it. I KNOW I can make something better... but I'll prolly post my future stuff. You can see if I prove myself later on.
I just get to a certain point and am like meh... that'll work. this is just my first art class and it is only available online.
Do not get my wrong I love art. I just don't get the time to make the kind I want.
It is hard because I have a million art piece ideas yet not time to really do it.

As for new art piece ideas...
Most ideas I get are fueled by something that I cannot let go of. As of late though I have been tired of feeling. So most thoughts, emotions, and moments that I use to hold onto for an idea.. I just throw out. So you can see lots non-emotion envoked art like lots of cartoon doodles on my belongings.

Okay.... so I am 22 and will be 23 this 2011 and I am a college freshman..not the most pathetic story... but just a bit discouraging when I already have a strong distaste for taking the time out for higher education.
I want to study art ed and agriculture... So I am quite slowly doing the college thing. What job market am I rushing to anyways? Will they even need art teachers by the time I graduate from college??!? What if I had to teach something else like ..math.. ::shudders::.
Carmen's mom comes in at night to see how I am. A recent conversation:
"how's it going rachie?"
"uhhh..hmmm..gooood."
"oh don't be so sad"
"do I look sad?"
"yes you do"
"oh"

I wanted to know what these studious-depression faces looked like so I would take a picture after each time she would come in they goes as follows:

PLese excuse the I rolled out of bed and have been wearing pjs all day look*

I tell myself:
just do it.. it will end eventually.
I'll reward you with fun an exciting summer and fall employement
or to live in a new place as soon an the school year is over.
I cold go travel or live in the mountains ...
just force yourself..come on rach.
Lucky for you the school year is from January til August!
Come on Rach.
Enough crazy monolouges.

hmm//

I basically JUST got done finishing my art history 2 exam... lets just say I'm glad there will be four other exams to help it all balance out. I do incredibly well in my intro to visual arts class infact I tutor someone in that class... alot of the same material overlaps... and so I thought I'd do well... yeah...no. There is always next time. I studied before the exam and ralized I had not really retained much... I had intended on studying last night annnd well I didn't. I'm glad I didn't because I wasn't remembering anythign and it is more important that I worked on my other school work. last night I went to the burger king/gas station with Scott. Scott and I were buddies before he left for the mission and now we're still friends. It was great to just sit and talked about what ever with him and not worry about the people around me. Although the topics are typically the same it was still nice. We ended up staying for 4-ish hours. My roommates are pretty great! We had FHE this past Monday and did little skit things which was a little silly and embarassing, but I got over it. I am actually a FHE "mother" (group leader) but if you don't know I am more on the quiet side. I really don't like competeing to be heard over a group of mostly loud extra-veerts. I wish I could upload pictures but I can't find the file. You can always check the facebook... but really if we're not facebook friends then why aren't we? If the answer is you don't have a facebook well then you should just get one. My life is updated more often on there. facebook doesn't include all the stuff I type in with the pics, well, that is if you read it.
Umm... other than art history 2 my classes are going pretty well. I recently dropped my architecture class. I just don't need it for my major. After taking this class I know I couldn't be an architect, and I am tired of people trying to pedal it on me just because I can do it. If I'm going to force myself into 4+ years of school I'm going to need to really like or love what I'm doing.

I haven't been able to take an art class since high school and I am being left behind in the dust. I drew some stuff in my sketch book.

Kid with a boom box. Reminds me of someone I know. ^

I'm not sure where this was going and some orange blead through from another piece.^

in my intro to vis arts class they were talking about looking into and better undertanding art from your culture... which I don't fully understand... here's a cool tiger things that in seen often in Mexican folk art.^

I know the legs are short and other stuff.. but I don't know how ot improve and I don't like having to erase^

I hate this one... i like the spray can part.^

I've been really busy with work. I haven't had a lot of time for art really.
I have also been really busy getting my stuff in line to start school by next year.

At church and with my family they've been talking to me a lot about everything I need to do and accomplish. To think about it all... it's really stressful. I've decided that my life time-table isn't the same as the norm. The church places a lot of importance on the family, helping your family, staying close with your family, creating your own family as well... Me? That is really funny.
I really want to finish school, serve a full time mission, serve with the peace corps helping people learn about being self sufficient with the use of agriculture or helping others in the community out reach programs, I'd like to learn to play a new instrument.
Really all of those things above could be done at any time in my life. The possibility gets smaller and smaller as the years go by. I'd like to say I'll stick to those things... but I most probably won't.

It seems like lots of people have so many dreams... and in time they get compromised because they're afraid of being alone, they doubt themselves, or they become disappointed and give up.

One of my friends once said ' live with low expectations and you'll be surprised with your outcomes'

Not to sound cynical but... I think it actually pretty good advice. When you're a quiet and avoid conflict a lot you get stepped on a lot. I think the best I can do is just be happy, kind, work hard, and keep in mind in general what I want to do with my life. When I just keep my expectations to the minimum, I get plesantly suprised more often (:

My Blogger is a bit different.

I changed up my Blogger a little bit. It's got a new name, banner, and I think I change some minor colors around. My sister has a Esty web page
( http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7300252&ga_search_query=wechoosejoy&ga_search_type=seller_usernames )
where she sells her crafty creations. I thought I'm make one
( http://www.etsy.com/profile.php?user_id=7626694 ).
There's nothing up for sale because ...I honestly have no clue what I'd sell. it'll be an on going project. Maybe I'll get some more time to make a painting I want to sell or pick out a high quality image to make prints from.
...Maybe.

As for art. I haven't been making a whole lot. I've decided I really like pieces that focus on lines or are really painty... I'm sure that can't be a term & perhaps you don't know exactly what I mean but.. oh well :). Here's the latest pics.

The Battle of the Chickens!

I'm not sure what this is ^

A painting based off of the song 'Engine' By Neutral Milk Hotel possibly my Favorite band.

Some dream I had I think... : shrug :

From a picture I took at my brother wedding.

as for my Sketch book this is the only thing I've done in the past two months or so. I've been really busy with work and keeping up with everyone. Luckily I live at Carmen's house so my room is always Super tidy ( Carmen's momo cleans it while I'm out). For the past two week I've been teaching my Sunday school class about missionaries and good missionary work. For one of the activities the class wrote one of our branch members currently out and serving. His name is Elder Carmona and he is actually from McKinney so I do know him a little. It was great to know that he was going to be getting extra letters and drawings.

In other news... My last 4th was a little depressing being away from my family and friends. This one was just how I like them. We had a great BBQ and LOTS AND LOTS of fireworks!!! Carmen and I shot off the bigger stuff for the little kiddos with only minor injuries. I hope every one else had a great 4th of July.

Oh annnnd I'm using Google Chrome_ me likey!!!

If you have any suggestions for my art-ish stuff. Keep it coming :).
